About

I have always been a very visual person but I would never have labelled myself as artistic. This all changed when I accepted that I needed to have an art related hobby to bring some peace to my hectic life.

I tried a few different ones from macrame to mandalas and though I enjoyed them all, nothing ever really stuck. However, my luck changed after I discovered botanical line drawing which then led me to floral illustration. It was like a whole new world became apparent to me. I started noticing every flower’s shape, colour, every groove of a branch and so much more.

I continued to practise and I must admit that I was quite surprised with what i was creating. Calligraphy was always something that I marveled at. I just thought I would never be able to reproduce it because of my less than stellar handwriting (common misconception). However, I figured I had already produced artwork which at one point seemed impossible to me so I built up the courage to try pointed pen calligraphy.

Since I picked up my first pen, I haven’t been able to put it down. I am always working on new scripts and mastering current ones. Both art forms are very near and dear to my heart which inspired my name ‘Quills and Blooms.’

My biggest inspiration for anything that I create continues to be nature. I thoroughly enjoy observing flowers as they bloom in Spring, leaves that change colour in Autumn and even the shapes that branches form during Winter.

I hope you enjoyed reading my story and that it inspires you to try something new, as you might just discover your passion.
